Holistic Life Counselor
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, a division of the National Institutes of Health, defines complementary medicine as unconventional treatments used in addition to treatments by a person’s medical doctor or physician. Alternative Medicine includes treatments used in place of traditional medicine which might be seeing a homeopath or naturopath doctor instead of seeing your physician. Integrative Medicine takes place in many health care settings and integrates complementary and alternative therapies with conventional medicine. The goal of integrative medicine is to treat the whole person-----mind-body-and spirit. This is why Dr. Cathy Armstrong combines her knowledge and skills as a registered nurse, licensed professional counselor, certified nutrition consultant, aromatherapy specialist, clinical hypnotherapist, and ordained minister to treat her clients as a whole person.

Anxiety Disorders
Corpus Christi Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, Cathy Armstrong is a registered nurse with extensive experience in the field of anxiety relief and stress management. She has helped numerous Corpus Christi residents obtain relief from anxiety and OCD in as little as 2 weeks in some incidents. Cathy uses a HOLITISTIC MODEL and incorporates treating the whole individual and not just the dis-ease. Patients learn Stress Management Skills, Assertiveness Training, And Cognitive Behavior Strategies for Successful Life Changes. Relaxation Techniques, Qi Gong, Affirmations, and Guided Imagery are used in stress management training.

Holistic Model of Counseling
Cathy's training and practice are based on a Holistic Model - built upon the belief that our mind, body and spirit all interact to create our vitality, passion and purpose. To heal one part, we must acknowledge all three. Through Holistic Life Counseling, you can learn to overcome life’s many different challenges, survive stressful events and experience a vital, joyful, productive life. In December of 2006, Holistic Nursing was officially recognized by the American Nurses Association (ANA) as a nursing specialty with a defined scope and standards of practice, acknowledging holistic nursing’s unique contribution to the health and healing of people and society. Integrative health care incorporates the needs of the whole person-----body, mind, and spirit. Dr. Armstrong is not only a licensed professional counselor, board certified clinical hypnotherapist, clinical nutrition counselor, and registered nurse; she is also an ordained minister and addresses each client as the sum of his or her parts---body, mind, and spirit. When we are free of stress, worry, and anxiety, become spiritually connected to our own personal higher power, and promote a healthy life style we feel better, have more energy, sleep better, have less pain, become more productive, make better grades, are better parents, friends, and partners.Dr. Armstrong has a doctorate in religious studies and holistic care to better minister to the needs of her patients. She can pray with clients requesting Christian Counseling and give guidance to those seeking Spiritual Counseling.

What Is A Holisitc Nurse?
Holistic nursing is defined as “all nursing practice that has healing the whole person as its goal” (American Holistic Nurses’ Association, 1998, Description of Holistic Nursing). Holistic nursing is a specialty practice that draws on nursing knowledge, theories, expertise and intuition to guide nurses in becoming therapeutic partners with people in their care. This practice recognizes the totality of the human being - the interconnectedness of body, mind, emotion, spirit, social/cultural, relationship, context, and environment.
The holistic nurse is an instrument of healing and a facilitator in the healing process. Holistic nurses honor each individual's subjective experience about health, health beliefs, and values.
Holistic nurses may integrate complementary/alternative modalities (CAM) into clinical practice to treat people’s physiological, psychological, and spiritual needs. Doing so does not negate the validity of conventional medical therapies, but serves to complement, broaden, and enrich the scope of nursing practice and to help individuals access their greatest healing potential.
The practice of holistic nursing requires nurses to integrate self-care, self-responsibility, spirituality, and reflection in their lives. This may lead the nurse to greater awareness of the interconnectedness with self, others, nature, and spirit. This awareness may further enhance the nurses understanding of all individuals and their relationships to the human and global community, and permits nurses to use this awareness to facilitate the healing process. Cathy Armstrong maintains a private practice as both a licensed professional counselor and a holistic registered nurse in Corpus Christi, Texas. Cathy became a member of the American Holistic Nursing Association in 2008 after the completion of her dissertation in holistic health care.
